Whopping Discounts On Business Class--And Lots More

I received many e-mails wondering why it had taken me over a month to send the last e-mail alert--and the simple answer is that I have so many exciting projects in the works (new travel book, several exciting Special Reports etc). But I now commit to sending you updates more frequently to help you save money AND make upscale travel the best experience possible. Note that my alerts never accept any advertising, so I can tell you the good, the bad, the plain and the ugly! So let's review the exciting news of the week:

  1. Each spring, British Airways and Continental initiate sales for business class tickets to Europe during the summer months. Why in the world would they offer deep discounts for premium seats just when we want to take a vacation? Simply because business travelers also take a break, and demand for business class seats slows down. The airlines may as well sell the lie-flat seats at a much lower price rather than flying with an empty seat. So if you have not yet made your reservations to Europe, this may be your lucky day--roundtrip fares typically go for $1,500 to $3,000--depending on your city of origin. But that's way cheaper than the $4,000 to $10,000 fares typical of business class to Europe. Also check out other airlines like American and United, which may match these fares!

  2. I have always believed that Continental Airlines is the worst when it comes to getting free award seats. Turns out US Airways and Delta are even worse! Click through to:

  3. In this month's edition of Luxury Escapes is a description of how I netted $2,000 in future airfare savings while flying on free tickets with my family last month (why aren't YOU doing the same thing?)!!! Then the first in a series of articles where I show you the exact steps I take to get outstanding hotel values. Plus I provide details of two current limited time web auctions where business class seats are going for a song (South Africa, anyone?). Interested? Click through to:

  4. By now you must have heard about the Double Decker A380 debut in the USA this past week. Aircraft enthusiasts (including yours truly!) are excited about the prospects of flying on the biggest aircraft ever. Singapore, followed by Lufthansa and Qantas will be the first airlines to operate this mammoth machine. The bigger question is whether the A380 will have any impact on your flying experience. I certainly would not bet on anything revolutionary in coach class--but first and business class may be taken to a whole new level. Read all about it--and enjoy the slide show:

  5. Another big news item in the airline industry is the Open Skies Agreement reached by the US and European regulators last week. This means that Lufthansa could fly from London to New York, and British Airways from Frankfurt to Boston. The result may be more competition across the Atlantic--and lower fares! But the agreement does not allow foreign carriers to fly within the US, so British Airways will not be jetting you from Boston to San Francisco anytime soon.
